vBloc Procedure Weight Loss Surgery
The vBloc procedure (approved by the FDA in 2015) involves placement of neurostimulator leads around the vagus nerves, which link the brain and stomach to provide feedback about hunger. This weight loss surgery is performed as an outpatient with minimally invasive techniques. Patients generally feel full on smaller portions of food for a longer period of time. There is no restriction on types of food that can still be enjoyed. Patients follow up with their surgeon routinely to have the device programmed as necessary.
Complications from the vBloc procedure are rare, and the device can be deactivated or removed at any time. Patients are required to periodically charge the device at home, which is done easily by placing a mobile charger over the skin where the neuroregulator is implanted.
